College degrees, which one for creative writing?

Well, my whole life I’ve noticed that I have a clear talent in Creative writing.
Which degree would be the best to enhance my creative writing skills, while still giving a generous amount of job opportunities?

Unfortunately, those are largely mutually exclusive. If you’re looking for a generous amount of job opportunities, you want to look for a degree that is in high demand — which is doubly difficult now, in this worldwide recession. Degrees focusing on writing, especially creative, simply aren’t in high demand.

The closest I can think of would be business, perhaps leaning to advertising or marketing, which would take more writing and creativity, but still be marketable for work other than "creative writing" (which, like being a rock star, doesn’t pay much unless you’re the one in a thousand who hits just the right combination of luck and talent).

How do I promote a Creative Writing course?

I really wanted to take a creative writing class this summer at this place called Deering Estate but the instructor said that he can’t do the class because no one signed up for it! I was so pissed because this is the only creative writing class offered near where I live. How do I promote this class so people will want to come to it??

Put up flyers in the library and any independent bookstores in town, including used book stores. You can also go to the big chain bookstores and ask if there’s a place where you can put up flyers, too.

You can also draft an announcement for the local community newspaper and ask if they’ll run it.

Preschool Lesson Plan Help?

i need to do a writing, math, and gross motor activity for my lesson plan on Triangles. Im drawing a blank and i cant think of anything creative. this is a 4-5 age group
i have a math activity, but i still need a writing and gross motor

Writing falls under fine motor so I’ll give you some general ideas that work with pre-writing skills.
* Use geoboards and stretch rubberbands to make triangles of different sizes and colors.
* you can have laminated triangle sheets, different sizes of triangles on construction paper that you laminate and the kids use washable markers or dry erase markers to trace. You could provide a damp triangle sponge to wipe it off.
* You could have triangle tracers and scissors so they can trace and cut out…possible have paper availble (long strips and they can make a crown—see math) to glue the triangles on.
* triangle rubbings…triangles cut out of different textured materials such as sand paper, corrugated cardboard, plastic canvas, etc. Tape them to a table, wall, or floor and either do large paper or individual papers and provide unwrapped crayons for rubbing.
* Pennant painting/writing- this is great for left to right progression…a prewriting and reading skill. Have the large end of the triangle on the left side and encourage them to make lines from left to write with their paint brush or markers. You can make it more interesting by providing different writing tools to explore with and even the roller stamps.
* provide yarn of different sizes and make triangles…they can even glue them onto paper. Can also use playdough or wikki stix. Great fine motor. Or you can lace a triangle with yarn.
* Add a Stroke: On separate piece of paper for each child, draw several triangles, leaving off one side of each triangle. Give the children markers to they can complete the shape.

Math: crown with triangle patterns; make an evergreen "triangle" tree with strips of different sizes…seriation; …oh, I see you have a math.

Gross motor:
* create a large chalk triangle outside or a masking tape triangle inside…move along the triangle in different ways.

* make triangle shapes out of various colored construction paper. Tape to wall or floor and encourage the children to toss a beanbag onto the triangle of the color specified or have them choose a triangle and state the color. Can also incorporate numbers, letters, etc by printing it on the triangles.

* Use musical triangles for music and movement.

* 3 children in a group. Have them roll a ball of yarn from one child to the next so that when they get done it’s a shape of a triangle.

* Use triangle shaped visual cards with action pictures/numbers and the children choose a triangle and do the action.

Good luck!

Is there any better feeling in the world than the look on someones face when they have just read your latest piece of creative writing? For many, it is the fuel that keeps us going. It is like throwing dried apple wood on the creative fire that burns within a writers spirit. The flames grow and expand, and we get catch a whiff of that fragrance and ca not wait to start the whole creative writing process all over again.

The smiles, the praise, the words of encouragement these are some of the best aspects of the craft of writing. Not all writers crave these things, but the mere fact that there are so many books in print shows that there are a lot of people who want their creative writing to reach out and touch others. Whether you invent entire worlds as a novel writer, or you like to throw in a bit of imagery when you do jobs writing travel articles, the flair you add helps tell a unique story in a way that no one else can.

Of course, getting your creative writing into the hands of an eager audience is sometimes easier to imagine than to accomplish. Agonizing over every adjective and punctuation mark is only part of the process of becoming a published writer. Some writers choose to pursue traditional methods for publication, while others take a different path and decide to self publish their work. Both options give you the chance to share your creative writing, although the methods and outcomes can be very different for each.

Choosing your method for publication is an individual decision and should be based on your needs and desires. If you are a childrens book writer whose main goal is to have a professional looking hardback book for under the grandchildrens Christmas tree, then perhaps self publishing is the way to go. If, on the other hand, you dream of being a professional writer who tours the bookstore chains to do personal appearances, then you may need the backing of a large scale publishing company.

There are many tools available that can help get your creative writing published, and it is usually the writers responsibility to learn about and utilize these writing resources. Check out Writers Market or publishers websites for writer guidelines that can help you determine how and where to submit your work. While it is still a lot of effort, many writers choose to hire a literary agent to help with the submission process. This allows you more time for writing fiction and less time for reading writer guidelines and tweaking proposals.

Creative writing skills are very important, whether your focus is writing fiction or simply making your nonfiction writing more engaging. Using words and ideas that make the story unforgettable is what causes great writers to shine. For many of us, the satisfaction comes from seeing this glow reflected in the faces and imaginations of the reader. While desiring the title of professional writer sometimes gets in the way, it is nice to occasionally remember the simple joy that comes when our creative writing is able to transport a reader to a place they have never been.

Delving Into Creative Fiction Writing

Have you got an active imagination and a creative thirst to put pen down on paper or fingers to keyboard? If that is so creative fiction writing could be a good hobby or a vocation for you. Many writers knew from a tender age this was their first interest. Whether you fit this class doesn’t signify, just as many discovered the fervour for creative writing in their later years.

If you’re a hobbyist writer, you may not care to attend classes or attend workshops. However if you would like to make writing a vocation, education is suggested.

One reason for that is because many folks with brilliant concepts aren’t skilled at assembling their ideas into a understandable story or book. They could need to study structure, pacing, personality development, dialogue, grammar and more before they can turn their ideas into a masterwork. As an example, many agents and publishers scowl at passive voice in fiction writing. While this isn’t an inaccuracy and can work in numerous cases, active voice is preferred usually. You can recognise passive voice by signals like has been and was. The right instruction can assist you in learning when to use passive voice and when to avoid it. Creative writing fiction is generally an area where active voice is preferred much of the time. There is so much to learn when assembling a story or book. Not only is it necessary to come up with the story, you want to flesh out the characters and make the entire thing engaging and plausible. If a tale moves too slowly the reader will become bored, too quickly and significant details could be skipped. There are lots of different categories of fiction including love, Sci Fi, puzzle, horror, literary and more. When you start creative fiction writing, you can fool around with different genres till you find the one where you are feeling most at home. A few of the people are simply intended to write inside a certain class, as an example could you imagine Steven King writing loves or Danielle Steele writing horror? You’ll find an area in which you shine, which is the area to target your study on. Also, writers of both fiction and nonfiction must have thick skin, and be well placed to take refusal and feedback as a learning experience instead of a devastating blow.

Many writers go thru a great many refusals before their work is eventually accepted.
