Q&A: Was this the right thing to do?

Question by romancefanatic09: Was this the right thing to do?
So my english teacher just got diagnosed with cancer, so we got a new teacher today. the english class that i am in in the only one that this teacher teaches for my grade. so today in class our new teacher asked what we had been doing the past 2 weeks while our teacher was out and i responded ” we were working on creative writing”. which i thought was ok seeing that we have been working on CW for the whole term. but after class a fellow student said that the whole class was about to kill me when i said that we had been doing creative writing. so what i want to know is was it wrong to tell the teacher about creative writng or was it wrong? also the new teacher is not going to collect the creative writing.

GOOD Classes for Junior Year?!?

Question by GRACE: GOOD Classes for Junior Year?!?
Hello, I’m a Washington resident & junior in my high school ^^
My class schedule is NOT official yet, but I have bit trouble on my classes I wish to take because I have to choose ONE between these following choices:
Child Psychology
Creative Writing “Advanced writing class, but NOT AP level”
Music Theory/Composition
Psychology
(ALL classes are semester-long)

PS I’m thinking to take these following classes:
Zero-Hour Weight Training (PE) or American Sign Language
Anatomy & Physiology*
AP Physics B*
Expository/Research Writing*
Functions, Statistics & Trigonometry*
Spanish III*
US History in Spanish* (can take AP Spanish Lang. Exam)
* College Prep Classes for Honors Program
because Expository/Research Writing is only semester-long, I need ONE semester-long (took Modern Novel during summer)

FUTURE REFERENCE: I wish to major in English or Speech-Language Pathology. Yes, I’m still struggling between going to path of Pre-Med and SPL these days “HELP ME HERE TOO!”
SORRY ;;
On FUTURE REFERENCE…
it’s SLP, NOT SPL,
which stands for
Speech-Language Pathology/ist!

which class should i take next year?

Question by damon1570: which class should i take next year?
I’ll be a junior and my school is on trimesters. I don’t know if I should switch my schedule and take French (2 trimesters) or stay with my two other electives “Creative Writing” and “Photography”. I already have enough foreign language credits so I would be taking French for fun. I think I want to learn some french sometime in my life and it would be kinda cool to say i’m taking two languages and i would probably get the award for outstanding performance in foreign language when im a senior. BUT i have heard its a boring class. The teacher for Creative Writing is really funny and her class is ALWAYS fun. Also I would have time to do my other homework from other classes in that class.

So I don’t know if I should have fun in my high school years and take Creative Writing and Photography and just learn French on my own time…or if I should take French.

French is a very difficult language, especially the first year of it. So Just do what you think will help you later in life.

Question by President Liz: Urgent: Please read, I need help with a decision!?
So, next semester, I have to change my schedule around. Just a little, but I still have to change it. I’m switching into Eclectic Choir, but that messes with my Physics and (possibly) my Creative Writing class. Now, I can do one of two things. As Eclectic is 2nd hour, I can either take Physics 5th hour and Creative writing (or another English class) 3rd, or I can swith out of Physics altogether and take Oceanology 3rd hour instead, keeping my current 5th hour class.

Pros of 3rd Hour Oceanology & 5th Hour Creative Writing
Oceanology shouldn’t be as difficult as Physics.
I like my C.W. class, and feel like I can express myself in the class.
Oceanology would be a new experience.
I wouldn’t have to dissect something if I didn’t want to in Oceanology.
There are a lot of nice people in my current C.W. class.
I’ve grown comfortable in C.W..

Cons of 3rd Hour Oceanology & 5th Hour Creative Writing
“The easy way is not always the best way.”–Anon
I don’t think I know anyone in 3rd Hour Oceanology.
I might not have as much difficulty as I would like.
Oceanology might not be a challenge, and I kinda want a challenge, since I don’t have any Honors or AP classes this year.
Oceanology might be boring.
I’ll feel like I wasted the $ 10 or so needed to get access to WebAssign, since we’ve only done like 4 or 5 assignments.
I know there are *some* nice people in 3rd Hour C.W. and 5th Hour Physics.

Pros of 3rd Hour Creative Writing & 5th Hour Physics
Well, I’ll maintain the challenge of Physics and won’t feel like a quitter.
I did this schedule before (for like 2 days before switching back), so I know what to expect for the most part.
Like I said, I know *some* nice people in both classes
I will have some basic understanding of how things work in Physics, which might make it easier next semester.
I won’t have to try and meet a brand new teacher and brand new people in Oceanology.
I know that Physics isn’t really boring, it’s just difficult; therefore, I know I at least won’t be bored to tears, whereas I might in Oceanology.

Cons of 3rd Hour Creative Writing & 5th Hour Physics
I will DEARLY miss my 5th hour C.W., even though I know at least two people won’t be there next semester.
I have no idea if I’d end up sitting next to someone really nice, particularly in Physics (what with assigned seats and all).
I’m not sure if anyone would want to be my partner for projects/labs in both classes.
There aren’t very many people wo like me in 3rd hour C.W..
I don’t imagine I’d feel muh like expressing my writings in 3rd hour C.W..
People in 5th hour Physics might expect me to be smart, and I’d hate to disappoint.
Physics might become even *more* difficult, and I don’t really want too much stress.

Alright, just so you know, I’ve got to make this decision ASAP, like hopefully before Monday so I can let my counselor know. Two more notes: A. I haven’t found out my score for the last Physics test yet; if I did well, I might not be as bad at it as I think, and B. I suppose I *could* do a different English class for 3rd, but I don’t know any of my Senior friends who have one that hour, not to mention that it would bring even more options to think of, plus the fact that I absolutely *adore* Creative Writing. I know this is a decision I have to make for myself, but if you could comment with what your opinion is, I’d greatly appreciate it. P.S. I need both credits to graduate.

Creative Writing Tips

Article by Samantha Asher

Many have a dream of a creative writing career. You may dream of writing the great American novel, or becoming the next Poe. If you are serious about becoming a writer, there are several things you should do and keep in mind.

Write everyday as much as you can.

Writing is not like riding a bike. If you stop writing and go back to it 5 years later, you probably won’t be nearly as good, let alone better. If you want to become a great writer you have to practice all the time. That means everyday. That means setting a certain amount of time to write everyday. Stop right now, check your calendar, and right in a time for everyday that you will write.

Write creatively, not like a high school essay.

You probably hated writing essays in school. They told you to have an introduction paragraph, the body, and the conclusion. Then they said to do the same with each paragraph. Don’t use I and sound really boring. Okay, they might not have said that, but generally, most essays sounded very formal. If you enjoyed writing unique, creative essays, then you are on the right track. I’m not saying to forget everything you’ve learned about writing, I’m just saying that creative writing is much less formal. You want to engage your writer and keep them interested. Don’t let boring monotony kill your story!

Edit your work over and over.

I have come across some people’s writing that was just awful. It was a good story and may have had potential, but it was very poorly written and seemed as though they wrote it once and never looked at it again. If you are writing a piece that you are serious about, especially if you want to publish it, you need to make sure that it is perfect. Print it up, if possible, and read through it a few days after you wrote it. Analyze it and make sure it’s perfect. Then have someone else that you trust go through it as well.

Don’t give up!

For me, writing has always been my dream. I write all the time and I’ve always wanted to be a successful writer. People are always telling me that I am a great writer. If you want to succeed, you can’t give up. Just keep writing and trying to accomplish what you want to accomplish. If you want to publish a novel, do whatever you can to do it.

Write your novel and edit it until you feel it’s perfect. Have a few trusted friends read it and give you some constructive criticism. Send out some query letters to agents and do everything you can to get it published. If you get some poor reactions and you feel like the novel won’t work decide if you feel like it really is good enough to publish and self-publish it, if not, move onto the next novel.

Don’t stop doing what you love. If you really want to succeed, giving up is the worst way to do it. Keep writing and editing, writing and editing, and you just may accomplish your dreams!
