Journalism or Creative Writing Master Course – Which one has better future career?
I like to write feature article and has some traveling feature published in newspaper. Now, I wanted to take formal study of Master but still torn between two possible studies: Journalism or Creative Writing.
Which one do you think will have a better future career? I’m keener on Creative writing but surely understand that writing a novel does not always giving you a penny. So, Journalistic?
Have you considered the best of both worlds – ie. a Masters in creative/narrative non-fiction? These courses often combine the narrative arc of novel writing with the ‘real world’ issues of journalism.
It’s true that novel writing is not always lucrative (unless you’re either very good or very lucky). I work in a university in London that runs MA courses in both creative writing and journalism. I think it’s fair to say that most creative writing graduates tend to subsidize their income with other jobs.
Best of luck.
